UPDATE May 2015

ECSEL JU Consortium Building Event

The Consortium Building Event took place in Brussels on April 14th and 15th attracting a total of 431 registered participants, 46 project idea presentations and 15 organisations introducing their technological capabilities as potential partners.

A dedicated session allowed other JTIs “sister” to ECSEL (i.e. CleanSky2, Fuel Cells and Hydrogen2, and Innovative Medicines Initiative2), as well as the European Commission (DG-AGRI), the European Automotive Research Partners Association (EARPA) and the French Association for Printed Electronics (AFELIM) to present themselves. They underlined the synergies and the cross-domain collaboration opportunities with the electronic component and systems actions in ECSEL JU.

The ECSEL Participating States and the Regions

  • ECSEL JU signed the Administrative Arrangement with Enterprise Ireland during the ECSEL Consortium Building Event. Altogether, Administrative Arrangements have been executed with 16 National Funding Authorities in 14 countries, 7 more are in the process of being signed, while 7 ECSEL Participating States (as per Council Regulation (EU) No 561/2014) are still to be started.
  • ECSEL met and discussed practical measures for programme implementation with DE, IT, PL and CH.
  • In 2014, Germany engaged the largest national funding among the ECSEL Participating States (39M€), followed by France (27M€), The Netherlands (25M€), and Belgium (16M€). Germany issued a press release highlighting the success of the German institutions in H2020 calls: about 3,300 participations resulted in over 900 grant awards with a total amount exceeding 1.5 billion euro.

ECSEL and the European Institutions

ECSEL welcomed the European Court of Auditors on its premises the week of 22-26 April to verify the accounts of its first year of activity. This was an unprecedented exercise – requiring great attention to detail and close collaboration among all institutions involved – due to ECSEL being the result of the first merger ever of two European bodies (ARTEMIS and ENIAC).

ECSEL in Public

  • ECSEL JU chaired a session at the launching event of the Regional Innovation Monitor (RIM+, 2015-2016) on advanced manufacturing, attended by regional and national funding entities as well as R&I actors.
  • ECSEL presented two contributions to the conference on “Science- Technology- Business”, Warsaw 2015, that highlighted the advanced materials developments centre CEZAMAT chartered to cluster the Polish R&I partners, while attracting international collaboration and investments.
