UPDATE July 2015

Preparations for the ECSEL JU Stakeholders Forum 2015 in Graz

The ECSEL Statutes stipulate that the Private Members Board has the task to organize an advisory stakeholder forum open to all public and private stakeholders, to inform them and collect feedback on the draft multiannual strategic research and innovation agenda and on the draft research and innovation activities plan for 2016. The event will take place in Graz, on 18 September 2015, starting at 9:00 and finishing at 16:30. The three Industry Associations (AENEAS, ARTEMISIA, EPoSS) have posted the event on their respective web sites and have opened the registrations.

The ECSEL Participating States and the Regions

  • Reaching 18 ECSEL Participating States
ECSEL JU has signed the administrative agreement with Latvia in July. At this point in time, ECSEL JU has executed twenty Administrative Arrangements with National Funding Authorities in eighteen countries.

  • German press reports: "Angie in Wonderland"
On 14 July, the German Chancellor, Mrs. Angela Merkel, together with Mrs Johanna Wanka, Research and Education Minister, and Mr Stanislaw Tillich, Minister President of Saxony, visited Dresden and indicated further 400 million euro financial support for nanoelectronics. This amount would come in addition to the ECSEL financial perspectives that already sum up to 800 million euro regional, national and European funding, potentially leveraging up to 2 Billion euro research and innovation over the duration of H2020. ECSEL was specifically mentioned during the visit, particularly the pilot line projects on FDSOI and Power electronics.

ECSEL and the European Institutions

  • ECSEL JU at the European Parliament
On 16 June 2015, ECSEL JU co-organized with the Parliament Magazine, a roundtable event on “Safety & Security for European Citizens and Nations, Leveraging investments in electronics systems innovation”, hosted by MEP Christian Ehler. The participants concluded that the flexibilities already available in the existing European programmes should be immediately used to advance relevant enabling technologies and enhance investments, in particular in the strategically essential area of electronics components and systems.

  • EUREKA awards a label to PENTA
ECSEL JU salutes the award of a EUREKA label to PENTA, a new instrument to develop micro- and nano-electronic technologies, systems and applications. Complementary to, but differentiated from ECSEL JU, PENTA will focus on smaller, faster and flexible projects, providing an opportunity to take advantage of rapidly developing markets and their related value chains. ECSEL wishes a big success to PENTA, and commits to develop a fruitful collaboration to maximize the impact on this key enabling technology, essential for European competitiveness.

ECSEL in Public

  • ECSEL JU presented in the "SOI Workshop" at the 10th Silicon Saxony Day on 7 July 2015 in Dresden, highlighting the contribution of the European pilot line projects on FD-SOI to establishing a leadership position in this technology, essential, among others, for Internet of Things applications.

  • ECSEL JU highlighted the contribution of the public private partnerships within the "Markt und Technik - Summit" organized on 18 June 2015 by this leading German magazine on electronics.
